Taxi
Taxis wait at the rank outside the arrivals hall and charge by the meter. Supplements apply at night, at weekends and on public holidays and for luggage, so the final fare depends on when you land. In summer and when several flights arrive together, expect a queue.
A normal taxi takes four passengers with moderate luggage. Larger groups, golf bags or child seats are hard to guarantee at the rank.
Uber and Bolt
Ride-hailing apps operate in the Algarve and can collect you at the airport. The price is shown before you confirm but changes with demand, so it rises when many flights land at once. You cannot choose the size of the car in advance with certainty, and child seats are not guaranteed.
Bus
Local buses link the airport with Faro city centre. From there, regional buses run along the coast to Quarteira and Vilamoura. It is the cheapest way, but with the change and the wait it takes much longer, and you carry the luggage the whole way. Vilamoura has no train station.
Which one should you choose?
- Travelling with children, a group or golf bags: private transfer.
- Landing late at night or on a busy summer afternoon: private transfer, to avoid the queue and the night supplement surprise.
- Two people with hand luggage, landing at a quiet time: a taxi or Uber is fine.
